THIS IS OUR VERY FIRST TRIP TO THAILAND. WE ARE GOING TO SPEND 6 DAYS IN PATONG(NOVOTEL HOTEL)AND 3 DAYS IN BANGKOK.
COULD ANYBODY GIVE US SOME ADVICE: WHERE DO YOU SHOP IN PATONG , ARE THERE ANY NIGHTMARKETS , HOW DO YOU MOVE AROUND ON TUK - TUKS ,MOTORBIKES OR CAR HIRE, BEST SHOWS ,
WHERE ARE THE BEST PLACES TO GO FOR A MASSAGE ON THE BEACH HOTEL OR IN TOWN ,DO THEY SELL COKE ETC IN THE SHOPS IN TOWN , WITH 6 DAYS ON OUR HANDS WHICH ISLAND ARE THE BEST TO VISIT AND FINALLY GOOD RESTAURANTS TO VISIT.

Just go an enjoy

1. Most shops/stalls open until late (10-11pm) so there is no actual night markets.
2. Coke like everything is available everywhere.
3. The day trip to Phi Phi is good but an overnight stay is better and does not sost much.
4. The tuk Tuk's with the side entry are more comfortable. Remember barter and make sure you have a price set before you leave.
5. Barter down to about 25% then work up.
6. I never buy the first day, just see what's on offer and a rough price then work on purchases from there.
7. Go on a day coach tour and see as much as you can.
8. Visit Fantasea (evening) it is worth it, with our without the meal.
I am not an expert but after 7 yearly visits for about 10 days a time I have worked things out.
IGNOR free raffles. They try to sell time share. The approach is "do you speak english"
IGNOR survey's as they are another way to get you interested in time share.
IGNOR The ladymen (Katoey)who want you in a photo with your camera. You can take a photo but remember they charge. Set the price first.
Back to my first line "GO AND ENJOY" The Thai's are very friendly people

hihi! sorry but what is raffles? and what does it mean by selling time shares?

raffles etc is giving free tickets to time share. don't try

time shares are hotel rooms or apartments (condos) that you "buy" for one -two weeks (sometimes more) every year. they usually charge a down payment AND you also to have to pay EVERY YEAR for your time! and, there are also dues to help maintain the entire property! most people "sucker" you into buying a timeshare and they offer free things! thet are contracted and to get out of a time share- you have to sell your "time"- or weeks that you bought to someone else!

Any pommy who stops you and tries to give you something keep walking it will be one of these time share things and these people are tourists supporting their holiday. I just pretend I don't speak english it saves the hassles. I have hear dof people having troubles with them at times.
