Hi All
We are travelling to Phuket in mid August and staying at the patong Merlin instead of our usual Merlin Beach Resort to be a little closer to town. I sent an E-Mail to Merlin Reservations requesting information on the status of the Hotel after reading a few posts here and got this reply. Just thought you may be interested
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
We would like to inform you that we were reopen our hotel on last March 20, 05.
The list of facilities available are our 3 swimming pools, lobby & reception area, Pool & Lobby bars, coffee shop, tennis court, fitness center, hotel clinic, pool side massage, meeting rooms, gift shop.
There are Barber & Beauty salon and Kids corner & playground, will be completely by 1 June, 05.
For Leelawadee restaurant (Thai restaurant) and Sea Side Garden in front of the beach, we are partial area closed for interior decorations until 1 July, 05.

Hi, we are looking at going to Phuket late September, want to have somewhere near action but not in the center. We are favouring the Patong Merlin, would appreciate some help please on the following: 1. what is the differnce between pool view room/ non pool view room (other than the view.. incidentally, what view do you get for non-pool view?) 2. what is the beach like in front of the hotel?

2. what is the beach like in front of the hotel?
1. Apart from the view, all else is the same. In the low season the cost is small, from memory it costed me an extra AUD$5 at night. Well worth paying extra. Non-pool view room overlook rather ugly hotels next door, and if you strike it lucky, you overlook the road on the non-beach side. I think if you do a search of the forum everyone says a pool-view room is a must.
2. The beach out the front of the hotel, is the same as the rest of Patong Beach. Use the search function to find info. It is nice beach, whether it is safe to swim there during the rainy season is debatable, but most on this forum seem to post against it. However, people still do swim, therefore, they do have a number of drownings.
Those that are asking the current state and what's operational, I've posted info in other threads about curent status, and when I get a little time I'll post a report on the hotel. Jim

Hi All I thought I would let you know that I was at the hotel on the 04/07 and the place looks great from the reception to the front pool. They are working hard to finish off the front two buildings rooms and the Leelawadee restaurant and Sea Side Garden but it is still not near completion as far as I can see. As I read rogerthatv1 post from the hotel with dates saying July 1 for the renovations for the Sea Side Garden and Leelawadee restaurant I wanted to post this information so that people going will not be dissapointed when they find this is not the case. They are the only sections as far as I am concerned that are not complete and that certainly wouldnt bother me if I was staying there as the hotel is looking great but it is just that it is a little missleading if they are saying that they are finished or near being finsihed around 01/07 the hotel shouldnt be saying that. By the way for those that are very familiar with the hotel and the beach front the big one supermarket and ocean plaza opened on the 5th July and looks like knew there has been a lot of progress made over the last few weeks. As I said those considering the patong Merlin should still do so the hotel is great and looks as good as usual and I am sure those that stay would be more than happy.

hi guys just a quick note about the merlin beach resort 4 of us stayed there from the 20th june 05 till 28th we found the staff & the hotel great i cant praise the staff enough they were very coitus & always willing to help the hotel its self was fantastic 3 pools restaurants (sea food, italian & thia + a great breakfast) there was a little building going on near pool number 1 but it didn't bother us. we spent most of our sun bathing time at pool number 1. the sea was a bit rough as it is monsoon season but warm as anything
so if any one is off there soon enjoy it
the beast holiday iv had & will be going back again

With "coitus" staff , and a "beast" holiday it sounds like you had a fun time. Only joking, glad to hear you had a good time, and thanks for the report. Good to hear that places are getting back to normal.

Hi Guys
As our Holiday is only a couple of weeks away now and with the Report above on the hotel thought i would ask the horses mouth. Heres what they had to say
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
We would like to inform you that Sea Side Garden restaurant will be open on August, but for Leeawadee Restaurant, our management team has a new plan on that area, and it still not finalize by now.
I have sent the hotel update pictures as attached.
Should you need further information or any assistance, please feel free to contact us agin.
Look forward to hearing your reply.
I don't think the above 2 items not being open will change much of our holiday plans and we are very much looking forward to going over and staying here. The photos they sent dated today look great.
Roger

Hi Roger
I am looking at staying at the Merlin Beach Resort next month - is this a good property? Is it too far out though? What style of room do you suggest we book and is it close enough to walk to the action? Many thanks. Maria.

As Alex said the Merlin Beach Resort is about 5 - 10 mins by Taxi / Tuk Tuk away (about 200 baht) We usually stay at the Merlin Beach Resort but this time we are staying at the Patong Merlin Resort which is located in Patong so we are much closer to things. 10 Days to go, but who's counting...

Stayed in Patong Merlin last week July and first week August. Rooms very clean but poorly furnished. Breakfast excellent and staff were very friendly and welcoming. Drinks in bar 3 times more expensive than bar across the road. Part of hotel facing beach is an eye sore and no work was done on this while we were there.

Hi, Merlin Beach will be perfect for you and your friends. The first time I stayed was with three other females and we loved it. Stayed there again last year with husband and 12 year old son and they were impressed. Great rooms, great breakfasts and lovely staff. We (the girls) are going again on 16th October for 11 days and then to Bangkok, we'll just miss you and your friends. You get the best of both worlds at the Merlin Beach, relaxing around the pool or being pampered in the Day Spa and then its a short 5 minute ride into Patong for shopping etc. You'll have a ball.

Hi All
Sorry about the delay in replying but very busy with work since we returned - 2weeks off and 4 weeks to catch back up again. They had started work on the front section of the hotel whilst we were there and were also putting together the front 2 wings rooms as they were not open during our stay. Did not worry us at all as the pools were great, service fantastic and food even better.
We had a great time, people were great, spent alot of money, got engaged and now looking forward to our trip next year which will also serve as our wedding with our close friends coming with us.
If any one is staying at the Patong Merlin in the coming weeks could you please say Hi from Daniel & Lawry to Sak the taxi driver at the Hotel, highly recommended!!!. Also if anyone wants any photos let me know and I will shoot them through.

Hi Rogerthat, We are staying at the Patong Merlin in the new year and would be very interested in seeing your photos. Do you think that the Resort will be fully operational by then? Can you tell me if you had in room safe or if it was safety deposit box at reception. Thanks Pam

We thought that the hotel only had a Safety Box at reception as that is what the travel agents books all said, but happy to say they all now have safes in the room. Let me know your E-Mail address and I will send you a PDF of the photos.

So confused. We have booked to stay at the Merlin Beach Resort, and have read glowing reports about the patong merlin Hotel. Just wondering what the shopping is like at the Merlin Beach Resort which is further away. are there any street restaurants around, and street markets at night or is it a resort completely on its own. Any info would be great :

HI,
during the low season, you actually get free nights. For example pay 5 and stay 10. The merlin hotel group in phuket actually lets you use your free nights at their sister hotels. So you could spent half your holiday at the merlin beach and half at the patong merlin.
Cheers, Flippa.

Can you just check that you are not staying at the Merlin Beach resort, rather than Patong Merlin Hotel. As Patong Merlin Hotel, doesn't have pool access rooms. They do have pool view rooms, but to access the pool you would need to clamber across the balcony rail and across the garden bed, not exactly what I would call pool access. However, Merlin Beach Resort, does have pool access rooms. The pool is shared among the other guests, but it is separate from the main pool. Jim
