Hi all, greetings from Germany. Will spend 2 weeks on Phuket with my girl friend in August. i"m really looking forward to come back to this beautiful island after 7 years! I was wondering how much money i will need for these 2 weeks, are 300-400 EUR enough, including meals and drinks and 2-3 day trips? Can anybody tell me how much the diefferent daytrips cost, need just some "about amounts". Thanks for all sour replies. Sunny greetings from Germany, B.J.

Even if your hotel is paid for already, 400 EUR for two people for two weeks is not enough. You'd be watching every Baht like a miser. I'd plan on spending 800 EUR at least and bring a credit card as back up.

Yes I would have to concur with that statement.

whether B20K is enough for 11 days is something very dependent on what you want or intend to do during your trip. if you want to have side trips, wine, women and song, then i would say that amount would, at best, last not more than 3-4 days. just my opinion. cheers.

When I think about what things cost in Phuket 2000 baht a day should be plenty. People make it by on that and it has to pay for a cheap as well. But then I think about what I actually spend over there and I try and save money and find deals and it was a lot more than that. I keep telling myself, "food is super cheap, beers not outrageous, day trips very reasonable, t-shirts 150 baht, massage 200 baht--where the hell do I spend all my money?" A lot depends on if you plan on going to bars. That's where a budget can get all screwed up. The same people that will barter for 10 minutes trying to save 50 baht on a t-shirt or a cab ride have no problem when their bar tab is 1500 baht. You also get nickled and dimed to death. For example, you will be drinking tons of bottled water. It's cheap but that can still be 100 baht a day. If your idea of a vacation is to relax poolside or on the beach all day, you're not much of a shopper or drinker, don't plan on taking an expensive day trip or travel around Phuket too much then you can make it on that no problem. You'll still have a great time but just be limited on what you can do. There are worse things in life than spending 11 days relaxing on the beaches of Phuket.

Hey there.. :-)
thanks for all your replies. Some of you missunderstood my "budget plans".I"m planning about EUR 400.- for my own. So that should be enough for 2 weeks of relaxing, snorkeling, a little bit of shopping and 2-3 day trips?!? W"ont spend the nights hanging out in bars, that"s not the way my girlfrined want"s to relax on holiday ;-). But what about the prices for some dinner? Is it realistic to spend 300Baht for every person inkl. some drinks or much more??? Thanks for your replies. Basejumper

A couple of trip reports from Bubble and Mattw have quite a bit of info on food and day trips prices which i would think will be helpful to yr question. It's better to bring slightly more money or a credit IMHO.

No, 300 Baht/day/person for food and drinks is not realistic. Not impossible, just I doubt you will want to do that no matter how frugal you are. 1000 Baht is a bit more realistic. If your not careful, you can easily spend 2000 per day on just food and drinks.

Well we will prob be mostly shopping for cheap bargains and plan on doing more relaxing on beach and in hotel pool than going to bars but want to do all the sightseeing type things and the elephant trek and snorkelling! so on 1900 baht per day per person i hope it wont be too tight?

One day snorkel trip can be around 1500 - 2000 Baht, so your budget won't get very far.
I normally allow at least 4000 Baht a day excluding souvenirs, clothes, female company
That allows for a few beers at night, and the occasional bottle of wine with a special dinner.

I got back yesterday.I budgeted £100 (7,300Baht ) a day for three weeks,plus took my Credit card(which I did`nt use).That`s for myself and my Thai girlfriend.
I do go to the bars regularly, and a bar bill of 3,000 Baht would not be unusual for me.I always eat in good qualty restaurants and like to take the g/f shopping a couple of times a week. The most expensive meal I`ve ever had in Phuket, was last December....1,600 Baht for two people including drinks.I thought that was very reasonable, considering I had 4 huge Tiger prawns and crab. The g/f had fish and oysters.Drinks were 2 litre bottles of Chang beer.

If you plan to hang around the pool a lot and not go out partying your budget would be fine for most days especially if you have breakfast included. So say for instance you only spend on lunch and dinner lay by the pool you will probably save enough to go on your snorkelling trip the next day.

Have fun.

Everyones' budget will be different depending on circumstances...like if you're single or travelling with a partner/family...and also on what your interests are.

For anyone travelling single, this will give you an idea of DAILY expenses based on a fairly typical day for me.

Room...........400

I'll rent an apartment for 12000 a month...can get cheaper but I like comforts, quiet and a nice view :-)

Motorbike+Gas.....140

3500 a month and costs 60baht per tank of gas...I use 2 or 3 tankfulls a week as most days I go off to one of the other beaches.

Beach sunbed.....50
Drinks+fruit at the beach.....100
Beach restaurant...Beef in Oyster sauce with Steam Rice :-)...80

Oil massage in Patong....300 + 50baht tip....350

Internet.........40 I'm usually on for an hour or so per day

Restocking fridge with drinks/yoghurts.....100

Evening food....200 includes usually visiting a noodle soup cart at 2 or 3 in the morning!

5 games Pool.....100

Nighttime drinks.....1000+ Can vary tremendously depending if I drink local brews (trouble is I like Jack Daniels too much) and how many lady drinks I buy.

Lady...........1200 Bar fine and gift for lady if I want some "no strings company"!

Total daily expenses.....3760 baht

Hmmm, so if I was frugal and stayed in the apartment at night I could live on less than £25 a day
