Hi there could anyone advise me whet would be best for currency 1.American Dollars or 2.British sterling travellers cheques.
were is the best place to cash these in and what are the normall charges for doing this.
This is my first time using them. Also could anyone advise on any specific security issues with regards to money and safety withi the Patong resort area. i will be staying here between the 5th and the 15th April.This is my first real far-away holiday so i lack a little experience any other advice on preparation and what to take out there etc will be gratefully recieved.

Hi there Paul,

Any major currency accepted by the bank money changers. Best to use your home currency as it saves yet another bank charge. Most moneychangers in Phuket don't make a % commission charge and the rate they show is what you get without any other charges.

I don't recommend anyone to carry a large amount of cash, better with traveller's cheques or the cheapest/easiest/most secure way is to use the ATM's with a suitable home cash card.... Cirrus, Plus, Visa, Mastercard. Cheque with your home bank if you are not sure.
