Major hotels close to nightlife, shopping would be JW Marriott, Westin, Ritz Carlton, Shangri-la, Mandarin Oriental, Renaissance, Concorde KL, Crowne Plaza KL...etc. The hotels mentioned are all near nightlife, either walking distance or short cab ride away, or by the monorail. Batu Caves is outside of Kuala Lumpur, you have to take a cab there. My personal choice would be the Shangri-la KL or JW Marriott. Cheers.

Thanks Nautilus, What are the taxi's like there? Do they tend to take you the long way on a short journey or can they be trusted?

DaleReid, if you're taking a cab outside a 5 star hotel, of course they are gonna try to rip you off. I have heard tourist telling me they paid xxx amount for a 10 minute ride. What you can do is ask the hotel concierge, get them to tell you which is the shortest route to the destination, then you can tell the cab driver. Most are honest. All cabs have meters, but most will turn them off at night and demand a one time off fee. You can report them to the many tourist police around shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur. Hope this helps. Cheers.
