Hey guys,

I am a 25 year old Irish cailin (girl) and am planning on being in Phuket from the 26th of July for just over a week!! I am travelling alone and am wondering about the safety aspect of this and where is the best place for me to meet fellow travellers?

I am not looking for anything too hectic just relaxing and touring by day and then maybe a bit of a party at night!! I will be on my holidays after all and you know us Irish and our reputation for having fun!!

Also I am thinking of staying in the Lanna Thai Guesthouse. It is cheap and cheerful and I have read some good reviews!! I am not looking for the Plaza but I do want to be safe. Anyone heard anything bad about this place?!

Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Hi Annesa

I dont know the guest house you are talking about so wont comment on it. There are a few good ones there. One of the other forum regulars recommend the Seebreeze in Patong.

If you stay in Patong which is where I would stay (and do) if I was you, you will have no trouble meeting people. The Aussie bar is always a good starting point. as are the Irish bars.
As for saftey, I can honestly say I have never felt unsafe in Patong, although I travel with other I often am on my own as well including walking up Bangla road at night. Obviously you dont want to be silly, if out at night stay where there are lots of people, what your drinks, and dont get out of control. Really same as you would at home or anywhere else in the world.

Anything you want to know just ask someone on this forum will know an answer!!

there is an Irish bar in bangla rd,i was there talking to 16 girls from Ireland who where staying in a hostel in the patong area, its seems you paddy's congregate here ,its a good lively bar
as for safety issue's just use your common sense, you will be fine

don't leave your drinks, and don't show of any valuables like gold chains,
there are female tuk tuk drivers,so if you feel more comfortable with a female driver they are there,

Happydays, the Irish Bar is called Scruffy Murphys...live band most nights from 10-30pm. An irish fella and 2 thais make up the band and are very entertaining.

Annesa, the Lanna Thai Guesthouse is a big walk to Bamgla Rd or the beach. Although the price is great, tuk tuk is 200Bt each way. If you are going to party a lot, then I suggest a guesthouse on Soi Sansabai, only yards from the action and probably similar prices.

Absolutely, Phuket is as safe as you make it. Simply use your common sense while out and about as you would in your home country. Overall, Thailand is very safe for solo-travellers. Come and enjoy; just don't go looking for trouble!
