during my visit, to thailand for which will be my first,my wife intend to buy clothes and foot wear whilst on holiday, rather than here in the uk, however we are both big people especially compared to thais, so have concerns about sizes,so iam looking for advice on sizes of clothes etc at shops and markets cheers

im not much up on shopping,but men's clothes and foot wear should not be a problem at markets and there's plenty of markets,beach wear for women also many loose fitting beach wear,,there is a large tesco in phuket who have a wide rage of clothes very cheap
maybe a problem to find loose fitting clothes at the branded name retail out lets desigsner wear,
where in phuket are you staying

chiang mai for 5 days, then kata beach phuket for 5 days then phi phi island for 3 days, then ao nang beach krabi for 6 days then bangkok for 3 days

Hi Mike, Mens clothes Board Shorts, Tshirts etc no problem, Ladies clothes are harder. Above size 14, you will get some beach dresses that will fit , but limited.

if you organized this trip your self well done you all top draw destinations, pity your not doing BKK first thats the city to buy anything and everything,

Depending on your size even shorts may be a problem, if you are xxl or bigger then forget it, singlets, tshirts and polos will not be a problem.

But if you spend a bit more then jeans are a good buy in Robinsons department store for bigger sizes and good quality mens shirts.

For women theres heaps of shorts, tops, singlets dresses etc in the market areas and also some good buys on tops, 3/4 pants, jeams etc again at Robinsons.

I forgot to say also have a look in the sports stores, they have some bigger sizes there. With shoes we have not had a problem with mens size 10 or 11, but with womens bigger sizes are very limited. I am a size 10 and cheap dodgy copy thongs in that size are everywhere, but all the nice shoes are small sizes except for a few pairs I found in the Bata shop at Central Festival shopping centre.

Ladies size 8 1/2 to 9 (which are a 40-41 Thai size) are also hard to find, not impossible, but not as common.
