Was considering travelling by taxi or bus to Krabi Town to get to Ao Nang beach for a night or two from Patong Beach.Is this advisable to go by bus or is thetaxi a better option and is there an indication of what rates will be charged.

Any ideas /suggestions will be welome.!

Pretty pricey for taxi from Patong to Ao Nang. Last time I checked it was about 3,500 baht. Problem with bus it that you catch from Phuket Town (not Patong) and it takes you to Krabi Town. I've heard that there might be a minibus service from Patong to Ao Nang once per day. You would need to check with any tour desk once you get here. A self drive hire car might be a good option, but you need IDL (International Driving Licence) and agreement to take hire car off Phuket Island.

You might think about taking the ferry boat from Phuket (Rassada Pier) to Ao Nang. 680 baht. about 2 hour trip, much the same as by road. Ferry departs 08.00 and 12.30.

Hi Alex - thanks for your comments. I also thought of taking the ferry boat across but I thought I read somewhere that during mid year the ferry goes via Phi Phi and not straight to Ao Nang. If this is an option in July and safe to travel on sea, it sounds like the best affordable option.

I've heard mixed reports about whether the direct ferry runs through the low season. Schedule says the 08.30 boat runs through the low season. Minibus to Ao Nang about 500 baht per person. I tried once. Pick up tour round Patong and other places took about 1½ hours and was terrible. Every time new passengers came to the minibus, the driver had to take out all luggage and reload the whole thing. He ruined my suitcase and a new was 1500 baht. Besides he was quite furious - I don't know why. Finally on the road. He took us to a spot 2 miles out of Ao Nang, and we had to wait for about 1 hour to get another minibus. Very bad experience. On the way back to Patong everybody took a taxi. Minibus - never!!
But Ao Nang - the most beautifull spot on earth.

Hi Skjoldviking - We were there for two weeks from 20 July and we took the most affordable and easiest way to go via the ferry across straight to Aon Nang..700 baht one way..The ferry runs straight there in low season as well. you have about five hours on the island if you return same day. Was worthwhile and certainly loved the island too!
