When it comes to tailors, my recommendation is don't. For every person that is happy with the work, there are hundreds who got ripped off.

Dragonman is the goto guy for accommodations. Living here, other than locations, I'm not familiar with hotels.

Try for something near the BTS or MRT. This is will you hassle free transportation options.

If staying over a weekend, Chatuchak Weekend market is where shoppers go. It sells everything from pets, to souvenirs, to furniture. And there is tons of off the rack clothing.

It's located neat the Mo Chit BTS station, or the Kamphaengphet MRT station exits right into the market.

Weekdays, Damnoen Saduak is the only floating market open. Just about any hotel can arrange a tour.

Brissygirl, try checking any one of the following options based on skytrain access and value for money:
Kingston Suites (Sukhumvit) - very good rates and more than decent rooms. Given your budget, you can go for their Deluxe units. Recommend booking direct if you end up choosing this one.

Vista Residences (Siam Square/MBK) - this is a relatively new one. Rooms are a little above basic but clean and very close to MBK for shopping. The property is a cross between an inn and a tourist hotel. Direct booking with them.

Evergreen Place (MBK/Ratchathewi) - you book this place because of the bigger space and convenient location. And it has a pool that the two options above don't.

Brissygirl, Ramada DMA would've been ok as a hotel itself, but it can be a hard sell to knowledgeable tourists due to an awkward location. It is quite a hike to the nearest skytrain and unless you're in it just to do heavy shopping in the Pratunam area, I suggest you look elsewhere. I don't fancy being at the mercy of taxi drivers all the time.

You can also look at Arnoma Hotel and the farther-located but skytrain-friendly Abloom Serviced Apartments.

You can also list down all your agent's recommendations and I will tell you which is the best pick among the lot.

Brissygirl, the bed configurations you are looking for are not always easy to find because majority of the rooms offer one large bed or two twin beds in a room. If you're cool with a rollaway bed, you can get one with a queen and a single. Or if you're lucky, there might be one with two double beds.

If Holiday Inn Bangkok (make sure it's the one in Chitlom beside Intercontinental Bangkok and not Holiday Inn Silom) is in your shortlist, book that. Here, they have rooms with two double beds. Perfect location, and with a staff family discount, you can get a good cut from the rack and/or web rates which are on the high end of a 3* hotel wanting to be classified as 4*. Again, make sure it's the right Holiday Inn.

President Palace is also a particularly good option, IF you book their club rooms which are worth the price. I did not recommend it initially because of your budget.

Adelphi Grande is okay. Not outstanding but very decent.

Citrus 22 is right smack between two skytrain stations which means you will need to walk at least 10 minutes in either direction to board one. I'm not high on that.

And let me echo Curt's question above. Has your agent been to Bangkok? Just curious.

I'd still go for Holiday Inn Bangkok. And yes, that's the one near Ploenchit (but in Chitlom exactly.

If you want to stay in Sukhumvit, I would get President Palace. Royal President is just beside it and are, in fact, affiliated. Between the two, Palace is better. But Royal President is cheaper. Both properties are a far cry from Ramada DMA which your agent recommended as well.

Hi brissygirl,
someone recommended the ALL SEASONS hotel to me. $29 per night for 2 people incl. breakfast. Apparently it's almost brand new.
Good luck.

travelbug, there are several All Seasons in Bangkok. Which branch are you referring to?

The one at Victory Monument is a brand-new, 100% non-smoking property that is manageably close to the skytrain. However, I would not put it high on the list for a first time visitor because it is off-city center.

Hi Brissy Girl,
Why not check out On8 Sukhumvit, just a few mins walk from the BTS train station and they have twin bed rooms.
From the list u have posted I would recommend Citrus 22, a very stylish boutique type hotel. If you are looking into having a fun night President Palace is a good choice as its located on a very busy road with loads of restaurants, clubs & Pubs. Adelphi Grande is also a good nice choice.

Good Luck!
Cheers :-)

As mentioned above, the option of Holiday Inn is better due to staff discount and the location.
Otherwise, I would suggest True Siam locate at Phaya Thai which is a new boutigue hotel. Showcasing stylish interiors with a touch of Thai design, 5 minutes walk to Skytrain Phayathai station and Victory Monument BTS Skytrain Station with just two stop to the Siam Discovery, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Cemtrepoint, Platinum Wholesales Fashions Mall, Pratunam Market, MBK shopping arcades. A variety of entertainment and dining venues are within walking distance, making True Siam Hotel Bangkok @ Phayathai suitable for a pleasant stay.

Further, it throw in a free dinner for you to choose, Thai or Western cuisines in a Thai contemporary setting

check it out at www.valueplusbooking.com or send an email to them
at enquiry@valueplusbooking.com.
