Hi, not long to go now, we will finally be arriving in phuket in just over a week. husband wants to know if it is worth bringing there diving gear, (flippers goggles, snorkle, that sort of thing). Is Patong Beach safe to go snorkling? i heard it can be a dangerous beach. Thanks

At this time of the year (August) then you have to be very careful about the sea conditions. Today I can tell you that the sea is quite calm and I see plenty of people in the water here at Kata Beach. But beware that conditions can change very quickly and it's not only the sea state you need to worry about, but also the rip tide conditions. BTW Patong beach is not a very interesting place to go snorkeling, flat sandy bottom, not much marine life.

That's a tricky one, need the diving expert Steven to answer that one. I suppose the sheltered areas of Phi Phi Island might be Ok.
