After our Hotel in Phuket was destroyed by the tsunamis we have diverted our holiday to Penang. Does anyone know of a nice romantic restaurant in Penang (preferably close to Golden Sands resort). Also I'm a little bit nervous that we are going to be disappointed with Penang after reading some of the comments in this Forum, does anyone have any other recommendations/comments on Penang?

Im from sydney Oz and I can't believe the negative comments about Penang in here. Its a beautiful place, and it IS cleaner than what Phukets tourist area was. Theres plenty of beach activites etc and theres a nice hawker style place to have dinner as well as restraurants. The locals are kind and helpful also. I stayed on Batu Ferringi and visited Georgetown, which wasn't as tourist-y and went over to the main land. I hope to get back there oneday!

Penang is wonderful!! I went in the height of SARS and I tell you the Malays are so friendly I love the fact all religions live side by side. Culturally there is so much to see and do and its soooooo cheap!! Don't listein to the negativity every country has there problems! Just enjoy yourself!!

people need to realise that you cannot swim at the beaches at Penang because of jelly fish. So if it is a beach holiday you want try somewhere else.
