INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Dear All
I have just got my Open Water PADI Certification and have only done 5 dives.
I am thinking of moving to Thailand for 6 or 12 months (in order to save money).
Is it realistic to assume that I could be trained as an Instructor or Assistant during that time?
And if so how much should I budget for?
Plus where is the best PADI Training in Thailand?
Thanks
Paul

i am an instructor - di my training on samui / koh tao. you need to be an opne water diver for at least 6 months for you can start the instructor course. as you stand, your next courses will be advanced, MFA (EFR), rescue, divemaster, Assistant instructor, and instructor - reckon on about 6-8 months to get them all done. there are many good training centres in thailand - just decide where you want to be

I just got back from Patong. Only had Open Water when I got there. 3 months later I am a Divemaster with 5 specialties. Total cost was about 1100.00 GBP. Really good courses and really good instructors. Loved every minute of it. Will be going back to do the instructors course very soon....will take about 6 weeks to do apparently.

Hi Paul,
Once you become an instructor, what are you going to do with it mate, work full time in the recreational diving industry or what? If you're 25 or less, it's not a bad idea for making a bit of cash and travelling around the world. Something that dive centres in thailand won't tell you is that while you are working your little ass off on the divemaster and assistant instructor course you don't get a bean. If you are lucky enough to land a job once you get thru the IDC & IE you might make US1000.00 a month, if you're lucky. PADI is selling a dream mate. The only people making real money in recreational diving are course directors and dive centre owners, the rest are on peanuts buddy. A little advice for you mate, if you like diving and you're still young (under 35) go and do a commercial air diving course. You'll get to travel the world, make serious money (US 200 a day) and be able to afford to party like hell if you want to.
