The main shark in the area is the leopard shark, a ground dweller feeding on crab and lobster. Other sharks we occassionaly see are the white and black tip reefsharks, feeding on small fish.
All these sharks are completely harmless, and there are no sharks near any of the beaches.
Worldwide many more people die from Malaria, traffic accidents, snake bites etc. than from shark attacks. Sharks are very important to the marine eco system, and we all need to do whatever we can can to preserve them.

im not for killing sharks or anything like that but i'de rather be safe than sorry and check where im swimming first! although there may not be many shark attacks out of all the sharks in the world it doesn't mean to say we should just forget about the ones that might decide to attack or mistake us for a seal.I'ts like car accidents, i always look out for that one drunk or stupid driver on the road, coz they just might get me. lets hope they don't though because im in phuket in september and would like to enjoy my holiday first

we all as divers need to do more to protect sharks. ie stop finning. hong kong is the biggest importer of fins.90%of the worlds population of sharks r dead. as sharks r at the top of the food chain what will happen wen there r none what will take its place the whole eco system is about to come to a grinding halt. if u see or hear anyone finning please report it to the local police. in 10-15yrs there will be no sharks at all.NOT GOOD.

Well i am back from my trip and was not eaten by a shark, but a fish did bite me, and i didn't think fish tried biting ppl. so you never know. i dont hate sharks just dont want to be in the water if they are around, and i am aware it is there home that i am intruding in thats why i asked if there are any around because if there were i simply wouldnt have swam.
