Just thought I would throw in my two cents regarding dive operators on Phuket that could clear up some questions other Board Members may have. I didn’t find this info before my trip, but I would have found it helpful. All dive shops (my example Patong) sell exactly the same “day trip packages”. Didn’t seem to matter if you went to ABC dive shop or to DEF dive shop. Each sells approximately 8 options per day ranging from 2400B for a two tank to 3400B for a 3 tank or as high as 4000b for a late pickup and diving by Speedboat. Just about any day you have a wide variety of dive sites to choose. There is really no negotiation on pricing for the tour, but I found that if you need equipment the individual shop you book with will supply and negotiate. The dive operator will pick you up at your hotel (normally 730am Patong) in their pickup truck, transfer to Chalong bay where ALL day trip operators depart from. You will be transported to the dive operator’s boat where you will shortly set sail. Most dive sites are 1.5hr away, so you have enough time to meet your dive guide, set up your equipment and have breakfast. All dive operators include Breakfast (light) a hot lunch and some include a hot dinner if you’re on a 3-tank dive. Most include soft drinks, water, coffee and tea. All charge a small amount for beer (50B) During my two weeks I used the services of 4 different operators and found them all comparable. Bank on a full day (even on the two tank dives) with arrival back to your hotel around 430pm or as late as 8pm on some of the 3 tank packages. Now what I don’t know is if you approach the dive operators shop directly (i.e. South Siam Divers –as they operate two boats} and book a dive package, I’m sure you can negotiate a small discount. Hope this information is helpful

Spector,
Basically correct, except for one small thing: As far as I know, all shops will offer you a package price if you make multiple days of diving. You can also do 4 dive days by the way, including a nightdive.

Stevenl…Not trying to split hairs here but….4 tank dives were not offered daily. As a matter of fact the only one I remember was on Sundays... I believe the operator called it super Sunday.
You are correct about some dive shops…some will offer package pricing (i.e. 10 tank packages) if you dove exclusively with one operator. However, most did not.

You're correct, not daily but every Sunday and Monday you can make 4 tank days. Both are very nice days, but quite long, and 4 dives on one day on a daytrip is a lot.
To be honest, if somebody is not offering packages I don't understand what they are doing. I know I do, and the shops here in the area (Kata) do as well, either based on number of dives or on number of days diving.
