2006 Similans dive trips

I would like to know the best way (fast/comfortable) to get to the Similans Is. for a day of diving. I have read that the Hydrofoil is a uncomfortable hour and a half each way....true?
Is there other ways to go?
How much is it for the day including renting a regulator and tank?

The best way without any doubt is a liveaboard, very comfortable and not that expensive as well.
If you want to do daytrips, the hydrofoil is not running anymore, was quite comfortable BTW in my opinion. This means yoiu can choose between either a speedboat or a fast daytrip boat, with the latter being the most comfortable but also being the most expensive.
Regarding prices: from Phuket (including national park fees and equipment) prices start at 5,500 Baht.

how long is the fast boat ride? I have made reservations at a hotel for the week which make it impossible to do a liveaboard...not impossible but I would hate to pay for the room and not use it.
More info on day trips would be great thanks.

The boat takes about 1,5 hours, a bit shorter is the sea is completely flat.
