I understand there is a direct boat from Phuket to Krabi, but I heard there was also a bridge you could drive across to get there? Does anyone know if this is correct please or have any more information on the best way of getting from Phuket to Krabi, (and back again) just for a day trip? Thank you \:\)

Thank you very much for that. Is it quicker to cross over the bridge or go by boat? As we're only spending a day there, we'd like to take the quickest route there and back \:\) !

Takes about 2 hours by ferry to Ao Nang. Travel by car is about 3 hours, but think that you have the flexibility for driving about and departing Krabi later than the ferry leaves about 15.00.

Also by the time you drive to the Phuket ferry point you could be a long way into your Krabi route. The ferry is not really a practical day trip option due to remoteness of ferry terminal and spread out nature of Krabi town and Ao Nang. Whereas day trip to Phi Phi is very practical due to small walkabout area, and 5 hours ashore is long enough to see everything.

Thanks for that. Our main reason for going to Krabi is to visit some accommodation that we stayed in 12 years ago. Crazy I know, but I'm on a mission to retrace our 'backpacking' footsteps and take loads of photos of the places we stayed in and visited as I hardly took any last time around! So if we caught the 8am ferry to Krabi, we should be fine to catch the 3pm one back to Phuket (thanks for pointing out the times as I didn't realise it left so early to get back). We're not too sure about driving ourselves! I don't suppose you would know the name of the pier in Krabi where the boats dock - is it Chao Fah Pier? We want to go to Chao Fah Road, which is nearby! \:\)

The ferry goes to Ao Nang, not Krabi Town. You can easily get a regular (& cheap) local bus (pick-up really) around the area. Takes about 30 minutes Ao Nang to Krabi Town. You could also take a long tail from Ao Nang Beach to Chao Fah Pier, there might even be a local ferry connection.

Many Krabi web sites state that there is no direct ferry Phuket to Krabi, however there is a direct ferry. As far as I know there is no pier at Ao Nang Beach, I've looked but can't see where the ferry docks. I suspect small boat transfer to beach ??

This is the best web information I can find ...

Boat to/from Phuket/Krabi There is a direct boat service to/from Phuket/Krabi daily. The boat, leaves Phuket ferry terminal (where the Phi Phi ferries leave) each morning between 08.00 and 08.30 each morning and arrives at Ao Nang Beach (south-west of Krabi Town) about 2 hours later. It returns to Phuket in the afternoon at 15.00 and the service includes a free shuttle service to Phuket Town. Tickets can be bought at the Ao Nang Tourist Centre, telephone 075 637730 or contact Phuket telephone: 076 232040 - 1. The cost is 350 baht one way.

As Alex said there is no ferry dock at Ao nang beach it is actually around the coast to the north past Nopparat Thara beach behind the national park head quaters. If you look at this map please Select Ao nang it is basically where that inlet is north of the andaman holiday resort.
