I'd recommend, taking all clotes with you if you are a sz14+ cause you won't find anything that fits. Also insect repellant, and sunscrean

thanks for that nzartois, I never thought about insect repellant!!! any suggestions about bargaining/bartering with shop assistants/tenders? some people have told me to only offer half of the price they are offering me and then meet them half way. Or should I be offering even less than half so that we can reach an agreement AT half the intial offered price? How will I know if I've been ripped off or whether I got a good deal?

Hi Rnetz, Before I start to barter I decide on a price I would be happy to pay for an item and stick to that price. I usually offer half of the asking price and continue to barter until I am on or below my original price - then I am happy and feel like I have got a good deal. Always barter with good humour and a smile. If you are not happy with the price then move on to another vendor, walking away sometimes encourages the seller to call you back and settle on a lower price. I prefer to shop after a couple of singha beers - it makes me braver and improves my bartering skills. Enjoy the experience.

I'm with Aussie1. I don't understand why people take repellants or sunscreens with them, they're widely available in Phuket and much cheaper. If anything, I'd stock up there to bring it home.
I'd say, if you like wine/champagne, take a few bottles with you, it's expensive in Phuket, but spirits and beer are cheap.

I agree with Tina & Aussie, repellents, sunscreen etc are not a "must Pack" Lots cheaper and more variety over there. Here is a link for lots of shopping info with prices and pritos etc. Cathy http://www.cathyandgarystravelpages.com/price_guide.htm

I found a brilliant repellant in the drug stores in Patong It is made from citronella and lemon grass. in a little pump action bottle. I used it when on a jungle trek in Phang Gna and it was the best didnt have a problem all day

We bought sunscreen and insect repellent in Patong earlier this year but when I go back next month I'll be taking both with me. We got totally burnt on our first day out using the 'local' brew never again. Also conditioner as what we found there wasn't the best.
