Cant tell, the weather has been mad lately, hot today, wet tmr. As i am typing this, it was hot a while ago, now it's dark and thundering.
Usually it's dry at the end of the year.

thanks for that. Normaly travel to thailand at this time of year but have done so the last five years and thought we should try something different, im not a fan of wet weather and i havent been able to find anything to show how much rainfall they normally expect in these three areas at that time.

It just poured for 1 1/2hrs. It was very hot in the day time.
Basically what you get in Thailand is what you get in KL also. Either very HOT or very WET or lil of both.
In KL you will be indoors most of the time. Not so in Penang since most of the tourist attractions are outdoor and of course the beach, like wise with Langkawi.
That's the problem with tropical type weather.

We just got back from a week in Penang from 15-22 January and we didn't see one drop of rain, just hot and sunny every day. We then spent three days in KL and it rained on the last evening only. Fantastic weather, but VERY hot and humid.

thats good to know. how did you like penang? was three days enough in KL. Its hard to decide how long to stay at each place cause wanting to go to Langkawi also but only wanting to stay for two weeks in total.

I wont stay too long in Langkawi unless you really just want to relax by the beach everyday, not much to do on such a small island. You can go to Langkawi fr Penang via the Ferry.
I would spend more time in Penang, lots of good food and some really nice places to see.
KL probably 4 days or so.

Hi bstewart
Yes, we all loved Penang. We were there for 7 nights and could have had 3 more easily. Still a lot more to see and do. We didn't get the chance to just walk around Georgetown, or to go to Penang Hill although we did see a lot of things. The food is fantastic, it would have been nice to have a lot more dinners!
Most people said that 3 days would be too long in KL, but again I would have preferred a bit longer. We really only had two full days, one was spent shopping, which is not my thing, but everyone else wanted to, the other was spent on the HopOnHopOff bus which was great. We got a good overview of KL but would have liked more time to go back and see specific things. I would have also like to see the elephants, the fireflys and go to the Selangor pewter factory, but unfortunately that will have to wait until next time.
From what I have read you would only need two or three days in Langkawi as there doesn't appear to be much to do other than lay on the beach. We were planning on going there instead of Penang, but I was worried about what we would do if the weather was bad.
Have a great trip.
Deb

There are Island Hoping tours in Langkawi also. Visit waterfalls, take the cable car ride, visit the famous tomb of the famous Mahsuri, i am not sure but most say she is a Thai girl.
A lot of activities in Langkawi are outdoor, but can be done in a couple of days.
Best to get a nice beach resort and just relax.
