Hi Guys, I'm going to Phuket this coming 12 March08. My wife and I prefer some nice and easy time with less hectic vacation there. From this forum, I feel that Patong beach is quite hectic and pack with night life. Thus we are opting for Karon or Kata beach. Is my assumption correct on the Patong beach?
Also, any good recommendation on the Hotel, which we prefer to have sea view and budget of UsD 50~80. Is it better to book via AWD or call over?
We read from the forum that the taxi drivers at the airport are over-charging the tourist. Is it true? If yes, how should we avoid it?
This is our 1st time to Phuket which we hope to have some memorable memories. So people please help out.. Thanks a lot !!!

Kata & Karon are a lot quieter than Patong tho you can still stay in Patong without bieng in the middle of the action tho still within walking distance to all you will need with restaurants and bars that arent close to Bangla rd but great value and entertainment.
Kata would be my pick if Patong is not in the mix....Ronnie.

Hi Jon, Ronnie and michelle are right there are quiet, nice hotels in Patong but I think if you prefer a quieter, less hectic holiday then you are right to opt to stay away from Patong. We usually stay in Patong but away from the action of Bangla road but last year even that was far from quiet. Tuk Tuks, Constant traffic, tailors, hawkers, dogs barking etc. I think you have made a wise decision to choose Kata or Karon. Enjoy your holiday!!!

You can also try Kamala beach. Closer to Patong, and the beaches there are lovely.

Jon March is high season and you will find prices fairly high compared to the green season. One hotel to look for but price may be not to your liking is the Marina Phuket. My friend checked it our for me last October and was VERY impressed. She has booked st stay for her next rip - too expensive for me because we need two rooms. Search the reviews on various sites s and you will very positive reviews. I like Kata Beach and village. You have shopping, restaurants and a lovely beach.

Hi all, Really thanks a lot for your great feedback. Anyway, we've decided to change our plan from March to May. Due to a cheaper rate. But I'm wondering is there any issue going in May -such as high tide..bla bla bla...
Maybe you guys can help in suggesting the hotel to stay there. We are considering "Seaview Patong Hotel". Any feedback? Please suggest some hotels at Kata & Karon beach. We need sea view and budget Usd 50 -80 only.
Michelle and Ronnie, please suggest some hotel to stay which you say is quiet with sea view and can fulfill my budget. I'm really confused with all the hotel description as all look nice.
I really hope to give my wife a wonderful time. PLEASE help. Thanks a lot....
Jon

Hi Jon, I agree with Michelle's post and would like to add. We are staying at the Seaview for the second time in late April early May '08 and recommend it. It is at the quieter end (southern) and you are not hassled so much with tuk tuk, taxi etc. Most rooms have a seaview and some rooms are a little smaller but they are easier to cool. Rates are around the $65 AUD for superior to $120 for deluxe mark incl breakfast for the time you are considering to holiday, As to the weather you will find the temp could range between 26 (low) and 32 (high) and humidity around the 70%, Please go to this link: http://www.alexmalcolm.net/ Remembering that you can always book your holiday but not the weather. Have a great time in the land of smiles and I hope this helps you in some way regards os2go

Hi All, I'm really glad to have so many feedback for my questions. Good news - I've booked with AWD for the stay at Seaview Patong Hotel this coming May. Really appreciate all your posting and answers.
There is 1 thing that I'm pondering now - transportation. AWD is providing transport service from and to the airport (from Seaview Patong hotel) at the rate of 800baht = approximately Usd25.Is this rate ok? May I know is there any other options or cheaper way? Also, I read from this forum that some taxi drivers are over-charging the customers. Any tips please??? p/s: there are only 2 of us.
Thanks people.
Jon
