Aaaragh - Holiday Inn has cancelled our booking in a Pool Access room in their Busakorn wing in May due to renovations.
We booked this back in January!
We are heartbroken as have wanted to stay there so much since our last visit (that time we stayed at BanThai) but hoping it may be a blessing in disguise - things always happen for a reason, right?
So we are just waiting on confirmation for a Deluxe room at the Amari Coral Beach - which will force us to do some decent walking.
Anyone know exactly what the renovations at HI are? I wonder if it is only the 'pool access' rooms that are affected.
Just sharing.... needed to vent

Hi NicandRob, I know exactly how you feel, as we have stayed he in the Pool Access Rooms each time we come to Phuket and I was dissapointed when I made my booking last October only to discover that these rooms will be renovated during our stay in June. I had already booked the airfares first, so couldn't change it.
I am surprised that you weren't told this in Janurary though, as I have had a lot of emails going back and forth every month just checking that the renovations are still planned.
I also find the renvoations strange, as we were there last June when they were renovating these rooms and they were doing it as one block of rooms in the pool villas at a time, so the other three blocks were still being used. We did get a bad case of paint fumes in our room for a couple of nights.
Also the renovations they did last year were fairly major, revarnishing the timber floors and painting. Although this time they say they are changing the decorating.
So I keep annoying the reservations staff each month, just in case they decide to open up some of the Pool Access rooms. I just keep my fingers crossed and in the meantime have one of the standard rooms in the Busakorn Wing booked. What a let down as this is one of the main reasons we keep coming back to Phuket.

Interesting response from you and thanks for the info.
Yes, we booked and paid for this in January this year. Only this week were we told our pool access room wasn't available.
We booked through our travel agent. I am waiting to hear back from her - I want to know if she can get us in another room in the Busakorn Wing, as you have - but obviously it won't be a pool access.
If not, I have asked for a Deluxe room at the Amari Coral Beach Resort as it has had some great reviews on TA.
It is a shame really as we were tossing up Skiing in NZ again or Thailand again - we decided on Thailand purely to stay there...
Oh well - what can you do? Will see what happens.
Fingers crossed for you getting a pool access room too

NicandRob, we ski in NZ every year, love it and it is a totally different type of holiday to Thailand, both are wonderful in their own way. By the way I just got back from skiing in Steamboat Colorado, so no NZ this year, Thailand instead.
It's tough that the travel agent took the booking and didn't inform you of the renovations. In future book directly with Holiday Inn, you will find better rates with them too, they will also post you a whole heap of vouchers to use at the hotel for restaurants, free drinks, free pizzas, free icecreams etc. very handy.

Colorado - jealous! I've done NZ twice, Falls Creek last year. My sister and her hubby did a season in Colorado last year and they cant wait to head back... We always book our winter skiing holidays in the height of summer because it is so HOT over here in Perth that we hang for the cold weather. Our last holiday was Nth Qld a few months back, thats the only reason we nearly went skiing again this winter - we usually alternate (hot, cold, hot, cold etc).
Anyway this is a Phuket forum so...
Do love Thailand and can't wait to expole Phuket again. Oh and the food, bring it on. Perhaps next time we will try Samui.
Thanks for advice on booking direct - will look into that next time.
