Hi Lorraine
You can see tiger cubs and larger tigers at phuket Zoo which you can have your picture taken with and also pat them. It will take approx 25 mins give or take to get to the zoo from Karon which is on the opposite side of the island. I am sure there will be a few forum members that will advise you against going to the zoo but I think everyone should make up there own mind. Never hurts to have plenty of opinions and advise from others though.

We had beautiful photos taken at fantasea with the tiger cubs. One was only 4 weeks old. The other about 4 months. I think this is better than going to the zoo. Pam

Hi Lorraine,
3 words for Phuket Zoo " Do Not Go " as simple as that, you can do a search on this forum for it and will find many negative comments about it, Fantasea tiger cub pictures are very commercial and you will have one sitting on your lap for as long as it takes to press the take picture button, for this you will part with 300 baht :-), suggest you have look at our travel pages at http://www.phuket-travel.com for some suggestions of things to do whilst here in Phuket.
There are a lot of things to do if animals are your thing, one suggestion would be the four in one tour where you will see all sorts of animals, including Buffalo, Monkeys, Elephants and others doing things like collecting coconuts and treks, most of these places look after and treat their animals much better than the zoo.
If you are heading north there is a Tiger Temple in Kanchaburi
http://www.tigertemple.org/Eng/
Have fun and be nice to our animals.
Regards
Alan

Hi Lorraine, I agree with Alan do not go to the zoo - Phuket zoo is a depressing, filthy, miserable place the revenue they make is certainly not put into the animals care or welfare!!!! I have previously posted about the zoo, while I agree that it is a personal choice, I feel any animal lover would find the zoo a sad experience. I did enjoy Phuket Fantasea - great food, great show and a chance to see elephants, tiger cubs up close. The animals seem healthy and are not kept in filth - as far as I know!

Lorraine, Phuket Fantasea is a show. You can't just go and see tiger cubs anytime, as far as I know. You will need to book for the evening show.
The Phuket Zoo is pitiful and very depressing. I have some pictures here; http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/9045f/160bcd/
Scroll to the bottom of the page to my travelogues. You will see 2 chapters there.
Better to do as Alan said and visit the Tiger Temple if you possibly can get up to Kanchanaburi.

When you book your tour you will be picked up and taken. This is a very organised tour. We really enjoyed the show but thought that all the stalls etc were tackarama. I agree that we only got to hold the tigers for a short time but we also got to give them a bottle. When nobody was having their pictures taken we were allowed to pat them. 300bt it would cost about $300 au to have your photo taken with tigers at Dreamworld. We thought it was a bargain. Just had another look at the photos and they are worth every cent. You are not allowed to take your own camera in to the theatre and you get the photos just before you get in there. You can also have photos taken with baby elephants, we didn't but they brought them out after the show and we took lots with our own camera. We also went to the tigers in Bangkok and that was fantastic. Do it if you can.
