My wife and I are going to skip staying in Phuket this year in favour of Krabi. We have never stayed here before but believe we have shortlisted our hotel choices to Centara Resort or the Sheraton.
Has anyone stayed at either of these two before and if so your thoughts on these would be greatly appreciated or could you recommend another hotel.
Also can you advise on any information on shopping, dining, local markets etc.
We are also toying with the idea if possible on hiring a longtail to go to Phuket for the day, has anyone done this and if so could you please advise costs etc or if going via car or ferry via Phi Phi might be a better alternative.
Any information on Krabi would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Well the centara is situated in Ao Nang Beach, which is much more busy then Klong Muang Beach where the Sheraton is. Ao Nang is more noisy also because of the longtail boats - maybe not so much in Septembre If you rent a motobike or a car you can visit the local markets. Lots of touristshops in ao nang. No need to go to Phuket
Klong Muang is still more like being on an island, more authentic, beautiful quiet beach, islands nearby. No shopping but with an excellent Thai Restaurant like Motherhouse Restaurant. You can book here also daytrips to Phuket direct by Ferryboat or by Speedboat if you want to spent time on the water. You can visit Phuket also by road but why should you. Just enjoy Krabi and its surroundings there is enough to see (hotsprings, tigercave temple etc) It is a most beautiful place. Good luck.

Centara Resort situated on private bay, called Pai Plong Bay. If you would like to go to Ao Nang, you have to walk cross the hill. The resort is very beautiful but all the food and drink there is very expensive. A dish of Salad, beef steak, and fish steak with no drink cost nearly 3,000 THB. But I understand that they have to take the food from the mainland to cook so it's o.k.
Hiring a longtail boat to Phuket is too dangerous and might take more than 3 or 4 hours for each way. I agree with Michiel. Just enjoy Krabi and its surroundings. If you would like to take a tour, the 4 wonders tour is quite good.
Enjoy your trip!
