johnnytheboy how about writing up a bit of a trip report. I know we all like to read how peoples trips went. Where you stayed what it was like, great food and places to eat, any bargains you picked up.
Cheers
Adrian

well !!! where to start. As a avid Bali traveller i thought i would go for a look and measure up the 2 places for myself. I had a great time mostly in Patong Beach area but if I had to choose between Phuket and Bali it would be difficult as they are same / same but different. Price acccross the board Phuket was not cheap but the people both natives and tourists were much better than Bali. Other than losing money when I was a bit too happy I never got ripped off once, Phuket has a very warm and secure feeling for the weary traveller.

Down side, it can be very seedy after hours and the tourists are to blame, however you can see or not see anything you want.

overall great trip, just me and my teenage son, unfortunately this forum is not the place to discuss the very best and the very worst of Phuket. Anyone going for the first time enjoy, be carefull but dont be worried, the people are excellent.

Thanks for that Johnnytheboy, I am glad you enjoyed Phuket, as you can tell most of us on this forum just love it.
I agree with you that it is very much same same but different to Bali...but the beaches are better. Yes Bangla road can be a bit seedy but as you say you can see or not see as much as you want to. We go to Patong every year since the last bomb in Bali, and have always felt safe. We walk the streets (so to speak) day and night in a group or on our own and have never been worried and we are just all girls (we were more protective of our teenage sons when they came with us)
Tell us where you stayed, how long for and how you found it, did you do any of the tours etc?

Cheers
Michelle

I stayed at the Patong Resort in the budget rooms opposite the main building. In the end i think we got a better room as this was next to the garden pool which is much nicer than the pool outside the main building. The garden pool has heaps of shade and as it is says nice gardens, the main pool is a bit sterile and not a great place to hang out for long periods.

Anyone that has Bangla Road high on their agenda would have to stay at Patong Resort because it hooks straight up to the middle Bangla Road so easy to get back to your room at the end of the night. The breakfast at Patong Resort I think was a bit ordinary and most of the food was in the open with a few flies hanging around but I ate bacon and eggs so it was always fresh.

I am not much into sight seeing, seen so many places it is very hard to say wow! now there is something different but the landscape was pleasant just the same.

Didnt do any water sports as I live on the beach anyway and I thought the prices were about the same as in Australia and took advice on not hiring the jet skis, safer to do this at home i think.

Did a couple of day tours, usaul elephant deal etc but the one that stood out was a canoe ride ( where you dont even have to paddle ) up the river and around the mangroves, checking out the walking fish and other little things on the banks. We aslo got to look at the fish farming and check some traps on the way. I got oportunity to take some pics and have a smoke while relaxing. One of the high lights of the trips.

In the end we just hung out and relaxed, it was a holliday so I never try to do too much, anything we missed we will do next year when we return, YAY !
