I found out the pink bag means you a pushover at bargaining.
Black means you an expert.
what are the other colours & meanings?
anyone know them all please.

What the......... are we talking about the plastic bag that your purchase is put in when you have shopped!!!! Eg: therefore other shop keepers would know how hard you will barter??? I have never heard this or particulary noticed different colour bags

I've asked some friends with shops at Patong about this and they said it can be true, but more often than not, it boils down to whatever bags they have available.

I know that they do this in Bali but have never felt that this is the case with shopkeepers in Phuket.

If you believe this, put the bag over your head and be done with it.

The whole thing is a joke.

The questions you are asked are the give away...

First time in Phuket?.....(ie are you a mug?)

Do you have children, how old are they?......(how many shirts can I sell you and what sizes?)

Where are you staying?......(expensive hotel = lots of money.)

So it goes on......don't worry about it, you will probably get ripped off whatever happens. As long as you have a good time.

Hi guys,
How does the original seller of the "coded" plastic bag profit by sending this message along?
We all know it's about kick back. No kick back, it would be cheapest available bag thanks.

I think this applies to most of the stalls you barter with.

We overheard this bit of information and waited till we found a very nice shop keeper and asked him and this is what he told us, i don't know if it is true but made sense when i checked purchases. When you barter for goods they are put into coloured bags after the transaction. These colours mean different things to other shop keepers. For instance if your goods are put into a pink plastic bag it means you were ripped off and is a symbol to other shop keepers that they can rip you off too as you are not a good barterer. A blue one means something i am not too sure off ,blue means " blue movies" well i didn't buy any and am too shapely for that so i don't quiet get that one. Apparently black is the best bag to get as it means you are a good barterer and cannot be ripped off. Didn't find out about green and yellow. If all else fails do what we did and buy a big shoulder bag to hide the colour of your purchases from the next shop. We did get one pink one after finding out this information and it was quickly put in our shoulder bag.

Many similar shops are owned by the same people, so I guess that's how the message gets across. That's the only way I think this could work.

Anyway, as my friend said; sometimes it is what happens (some retailers), but generally, it's whatever bags shopkeepers have at the time.
