I will go to Bangkok fr 10-13 June 2008. It's my first time to Bangkok. My fren advised me to stay in Pratunam as there is a great place for tourist.
M dunno which hotel should i stay in Pratunam. Need u guys to advise. My budget is less than THB1000 per room per night. As my mum is 58 years old, therefore looking for a hotel which is convenient access to shopping areas and sky train by walking.
Guys, really need ur help.

As hotel rates in Bangkok have sharply increased the past year, your budget may fall a little short when considering two factors: your mom and the need for a close skytrain access. Pratunam is a great shopping area, but the skytrain is not within a 5-minute walk by any means...more like 10 minutes or so. Given either the heat or rains, your mom might be forced to just stay within the proximity of the hotel or else, use the taxi more often than not when going to the likes of MBK/Siam Square and further to Silom or Sukhumvit.
You can check out the rates of hotels like First House or Bangkok Palace or Ibis Siam, but I am listing these places more for being close to your budget than access-friendliness.

If you go to PraTuNam, you should go to Pantip Market, The big IT Market. *-*

Hi dragonman64
While you are discussing rates could you please tell me a hotel that is good and close to the railway station, as we are going to changmai by train. We would like the budget to be around 1500 THB for the one night when we arrive as the next day we will be on the train, it doesnt have to be close to the station as long as it wont take a long time by taxi to get there and too expensive to get there. Also on our return trip what is a good hotel that is close to all things and again around 1500 THB per night we are looking to stay for about 3 nights. We stayed at the indra regent a year ago, the travel book says about 1500 THB but on the net it is saying 3395 THB per night and i really dont think it is worth it.
Thanks

Bangkok City Inn has a good location near the back of Arnoma Hotel, but reviews are mixed about the cleanliness. This is the reason why I did not recommend the hotel despite its conveniently-situated address. Let's just hope you get one of the better standard units.
As for the hotel near the train station, check out Shanghai Inn or most about any property in Chinatown which is close to Hualamphong. On your way back, you may want to try Krit Thai Mansion near MBK and the skytrain station at National Stadium.

Hi Again It looks like at 1500 i am restricted to what i can get. What about if i went to 2300 - 2500 Baht, all i am looking for is good accomadation with our own ensuite and a pool. I think for this price i should be able to get something half decent which is still cheaper than the indra regent.
Thanks

Bangkok Palace can be a hike to the nearest skytrain but this place is not bad. If you want to go to Patpong from here, you can opt to make the 15-20 minute walk to the skytrain then just take the cab on your way back. You can also consider Grand Diamond Residences which is relatively more convenient.
