The other guy going with us to phuket at end of august was taken into intensive care 2 weeks ago. We rushed down to perth & stayed a week.
He was extremely ill,on life support,& in a coma.
as a kid he had t.b. & then a heavy smoker so lungs not real good & a work mate had flu & went to work coughing etc., all over the place, barrie got a strep infection & by time they got to hospital his lungs were not working.
We came home yesterday & today hear he is now out of the coma but can't talk & little movement but docs say it will take many weeks for his brain to relearn everything. He is stilled hooked up to hyeaps of meds & the lungs are still full of grot which they are trying to get out.
So we have asked travel co. to change our flight etc., to november & hope he will be ok by then.

I think you may be being a little optomistic, but you never know. Just make sure you have good travel insurance, in case you have to cancel again. Although not sure if you would be covered as it would not be your ill health that is causing you to change.
The main thing is, I hope your friend pulls through ok.

Yes, best wishes to your friend, Shawn. A shame about your travel plans, but November will be nicer anyway. I hope everything is ok by then.

Oh well, at least that's some progress. It must be a terrible thing to be trapped in your body when it won't respond to you.

Barrie is lucky to have survived. Maybe now he'll give up the death sticks?

Fingers crossed that they'll do the right thing by you guys. You do have travel insurance, right? We used to use Covermore before we got top level cover through American Express. They were fantastic to us.

apparently he used to smoke a lot, but not for at least 5 years-but doesn't make much diff. does it.
Today he is up & walking on his own & trach. tube coming out tomorrow. The doc. said today that when ambulance was taking him to hospital he had a stroke, so thats maybe why he was so bad.
We have not got insurance yet as we have only paid deposit-but they would not refund our deposit & only barrie & his partners.
They are supposed to be looking at changing everything for us to go in nov. but geez they are slow.

That's good news, Shawn. Bad news about having a stroke as well, though!

Best of luck with everything and keep us posted.

well yesterday a specialist saw him & did ultrasound on his arm because he kept trying tio tell them it hurt a lot-
this guy is the luckiest on earth,
they found 5 blood clots,1 of which was hanging by a slim thread so that could have come free & be in his heart.
He now has to give himself the clexane needles twice a day for a couple of months.
They let him go home yesterday too.Which surprised us all.
He's lost over 20 kilo in weight & he was only average build b4, now he looks anorexic \:\)
we are having a problem getting hols changed without paying an extra $2thousand plus.
A rival travel co. can do same hotel etc., in oct/nov for same price we had at first.
So i been busy sending emails to travel co. but if the worst comes then we all lose deposits-$330 per couple.
cheers shawn
