There is a rooftop bar with great views in both Banyan Tree Bkk and Le Bua (State Tower.) From your hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 5, Banyan Tree is just a 10-15 minute cab ride. Le Bua is much farther (with more traffic to deal with) towards the riverside area, but you can use the skytrain from Bel-Air Princess, then head to Siam Square where you need to transfer to the Silom line headed to Saphan Thaksin (end station) where you get off and walk 10 mins to Le Bua. Otherwise a 20-30 min cab ride awaits you.

On the top of State Tower is The Dome. http://www.thedomebkk.com/ There are many restaurants & bars. The open air restaurant on the top is Sirocco. You can have a look the menu with price on the website. Sky bar is very cool as it changes the colour all the time.

Vertigo at Banyan Tree is a nice place for chill out too. There are more seats on Vertigo but the sky bar is more beautiful. http://www.banyantree.com/bangkok/facilities/dining/vertigo.html

For both places, I would recommend to go about 5:30 p.m. as you can see the sunset as well.

Hope this help \:\)

I have been to Vertigo before and its really very nice. Of course ultimately it also depends on the company you are with. \:\)

However I was told that the Dome would be better since its nearer to the river and hence have a better view. Can't attest to that yet because I have not been there.

Both venues offer great views of Bangkok so whichever place you end up checking out will render you awe-inspired. Of course, it goes without saying that dinner and drinks in either won't come cheap, but it's all worth it.

The Dome is less pricier, but that's not saying too much.

I was at the Dome last month. Fantastic view of BKK. The only problem is that you can only take outdoor photos at certain designated spots. Drinks can be a bit pricey....round Baht350 for a margarita....By the way, you can't bring your backpack along. Leave them at the reception counter before you head to the elevator......
