Hi, I am thinking about accepting a teaching position in Thailand. I will mainly be located between Bangkok and Phuket. I was wondering how safe it is for me to be there mostly alone because I won't really know anyone. I will be there for five months and I am a 21 year old female. Is there anything that I would need to watch out for or any safety precautions I should take?

Also, is there anything that I need to worry about healthwise when I travel to Thailand, or anything that I need to worry about with the political situation? I checked on several websites, but the most updated information I could find was from 2006 and it listed political unrest, terrorist attacks, and the Avian Flu. If anyone knows anything about the current situation for all this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Charmed

Hi Charmed220,
It is advisable to have Typhoid and Hep A & B.
Your doctor will tell you what is required.
And we know lots of people who do not get immunised at all.
As far as civil unrest is concerned and as you have indicated that you will be mainly located between Bangkok and Phuket you will be fine.
You will make friends easily and quickly as Thai's are very friendly.
Just take all the necessary precautions as you would when travelling overseas and also at home.
I am jealous as I would love to do what you are doing.
Have a great time in the land of smiles.
regards

What a fabulous oportunity....Go for It!!!
Like Os2go says Thai's very friendly you wont be alone for long.
I have always felt very safe in Phuket, but cant speak for the rest of the country.
I have never had any vaccinations but would agree with os2go especially since you are there for a prolonged period and don't know exactly where you will be located.
You are going to love it.
We all do

Hi Charmed ,
I am Thai and warm welcome you to Thailand. I have a business in Phuket, Bangkok and Udon Thani. If you need any help then you can PM me. Phuket is a very beautiful island while Bangkok is a big city. Anyway, our country is very safe for foreigner to visit or stay here. Don't worry, be happy !
