I'm struggling to find an "official" online source that lists legal ages in regards to consumption and purchase of alcohol etc within Thailand (most of the stuff I have found has ages that vary from one to the other).
From what I can roughly gather, people of any age can CONSUME alcohol, but you need to be at least 20 years of age to purchase it? I'm curious because I'm only only 19, travelling there next week, and I would like to have a few drinks when out to dinner and stuff but am not too fussed about going clubbing etc. I am travelling with my 20 year old boyfriend though, so surely he'd be able to purchase my grog for me while we're out and about?

We were told the other night by an Aussie friend who owns a bar in Phuket that the legal age for drinking is 20. Though having said that I have never seen police in the bars checking etc in all of our visits.

Hi Miso, you can drink it and buy it, but not in a bar or club if you’re under 20.
The owner gets a 30 day shut down and won’t be happy.
As Cathy said, rarely enforced.
Try getting a solid answer from any Thai department and getting a solid answer and I will bow to you.
Stay nice and under the radar.
Best of all, just enjoy.

and sometimes when drunk you may find that a "girl" may not be a "girl". This has happened....
I'm not speaking from personal experience but there have been stories in the Phuket Gazette.

oh dear! Nah, I'm usually a pretty responsible drinker though, so I think I should be fine... but will still be careful for sure. I'll do my best to stay under the radar!
