Do yourself a favor and avoid the Azzurra Nova restaurant in Ao Nang at all cost. I have never been treated in such an arrogant and disrespectful way in any other place. I went to have dinner at Azzurra Nova with a friend. Unfortunately we had the bad idea of ordering their house wine (all the other wine had sky-high prices in the menu). The house wine did not come in a sealed bottle, but in an open jar and the taste was horrible, watery and acidic. A few minutes after having asked the waiter for replacement, the "Italian manager" (as proudly advertised in the sign outside the restaurant) came to our table with a very arrogant attitude, asking us what was wrong. After I explained him the situation, asking why the wine did not come in a bottle, he became furious and started shouting so loud and banging his fist on our table that all the other customers turned their heads to watch. He claimed that the house wine could not come from a single bottle, since the jar contains 1 liter, while a regular bottle only contains 0.75 liters. He went on and on, accusing us of having poured water in the wine to avoid paying for it, and threatened to call the local police. Despite the unpleasant situation, and not really impressed by his threat to call the police, since in the meantime our food had been served, we decided to go on with our dinner and pay for the wine to avoid further struggle. After 10 minutes (and without having called any police), the manager came back banging a bottle on our table. He shouted that it contained the house wine, and began to uncork it. When I stressed him the obvious contradiction he had fallen into, since that bottle was only 0.75 liters (I wonder what the remaining 0.25 liters in the jar were made of...), he totally lost it and started insulting us with swear words. At that point we did not have any other choice than to interrupt our dinner. We paid the bill (cash of course, this place does not accept credit cards...) wine included, and we left.
I don't believe such a behavior and attitude would be tolerated in many places.
