I have attached the link to the photos and pricing of our shopping whilst in Patong and BKK. Pricing is very subjective, as has been discussed on here it really comes down to what you are prepared to pay. The prices are so cheap that you never really get ripped off even if you pay top dollar and don't barter hard. There are items we bought that i know we could have bartered harder and others where we got a great price and drove a hard bargain. To be honest it came down to many factors for us. How bad did we want the item, was it good quality, is the item everywhere or just this stall, and how nice were the people we were bartering with. Some places we went we paid more because they were lovely people very kind and friendly mostly the Thai vendors. Other vendors at times were not as friendly so we walked if we didnt get the price we wanted. We always shopped and bartered with a smile always very nice - it does help. Unfortunately I did feel very embarrassed watching some of the Aussies i saw there bartering and just being plain rude and arrogant like they were owed something! A few Thai words didn't go astray either here and there I think they like the fact that you make an effort if if you don't make any sense!!
Like I said on a previous post as a general rule we always offered a quarter of asking price then worked up to a third and higher if necessary. It depends on what the starting price is. When we bought a suitcase in Patong there were 3 places starting at 3500 Baht and 1 guy was starting at 2500 Baht for the same thing. We bought it from the guy who started lower. We really enjoyed the shopping (we did enough of it)!! and loved the bartering although I must admit toward the end of the trip when we just wanted to buy something and we knew what it was worth we would just say up front T-shirt 150 baht lowest price. Usually worked lol. Our DVD's were all bought from Kitty store at OTOP. They are very good there and we ended up with nearly 200 ( we bought some TV series etc for friends and plenty for my kids) They only charged 50 baht each and i tried them at night with the portable DVD player we took with us and only 3 or 4 didnt work and they happily exchanged them for us when we took them back. They even tell you which movies are poor quality (mainly the latest at the cinema). There wasn't 1 vendor that didn't swap clothing for us if we took it back after trying it on and it didn't fit. This does happen a bit with the copy gear as sometimes 2 items the same size can be 2 very different sizes!
There are some great pricing guides on this forum as we discovered when we were researching for our trip. Hope this helps as well.

When you get in there check out the public gallery if you like as we have quite a few pics of our trip.

Another great read Adrian that will be very helpful. I know what you mean about some vendors being "nicer" than others and you do find your favorite stall. There was a guy at OTop last year that was so good with his prices with us that we didn't even barter with him. I guess he knew what was a real price and what we would pay so he would just give us "best Price" staight off the top. He was so nice that we did loads of shopping at his stall.
I too ( i think all of us) cringe when I see/hear the over the top, rude, arrogant, westerner speaking badly to the Thai's. Unfortuately alot of the time it is Aussies.

Thanks again for another great report, hows next years plans going??

Michelle,
Funny you should say that, we had a guy at OTOP where we bought alot of Ed Hardy stuff and one night we went to buy some things and we had bought some elsewhere. He could tell by the prices we were offering that we knew how much they were worth. He just gave us the price we asked for. We went back there and bought more, he was very good.
Already sourcing prices for next year and think we have convinced some friends to come and meet us there. Looks like Kelli's parents have even got excited about it after our trip and are planning a visit too now.

Great shopping guide, all I need now is for someone to shop for me while I sit around the pool lol.
One thing I would like to know is did any lady's see a face product called Biokos Martha Tilaar over (40) face cream ( its for wrinkles lol)I dont have many but there their!!! and If so do you know how much. My sister just got back from Bali and she bought the cream, tona, and gel masks all for $10.
I still have a few months to go so the wrinkles will be plentiful by then \:\)
Love reading the JBR's so much info on them thanks everyone, Cathy enjoy your holiday with your family, and I loved the Fred and Barney pillows, thats all I would do with them to is sit on them lol.

Adey68 I enjoyed your JBR. glad you had a great time:)

Hey Lorraine shopping by the Pool...... well not quite the pool but you can shop while lying on the beach. Some of my best buys have been from my deck chair on the beach with a drink in one hand!!!!

I agree Michelle, there are good buys to be had while relaxing on the beach and the sellers are friendly to talk to and deal with.

A bit of bargaining skills will help....Ronnie.

Thanks to both of you. Very nice to have all that information when you have not been before. My wife loves to shop, even if its just looking L.O.L. We have the bargaining skills from Spain so looking forward to the trip. We are staying in BKK and Phuket so its very help full.
Cheers Glyn.
