Hi, anybody know of Motorbike rentals in the area of Patong, preferably near Burasari Resort. Also what's the driving conditions? Is it really as bad and dangerous as being written on the nets and on the forums? Whats the approx price for a Motorbike rental?

Yes It can be very Dangerous especially if you not an experienced rider. Even experienced riders need to take extra care with the traffic conditions and sand on roads etc. Aside from the dangers you would be looking at approx 150 to 250 baht for small bikes and from 600 to 1200 baht for big bikes a day depending on the bike type and the time of year from most bike rental places around town.
There is a reputable rental guy at the end of Ruamchai Road which is the road your hotel is in to the left side of the entrance to the Patong O Top markets on Rat u Thit Road. His Name is Anon Maslee 086 945 9307 Otherwise there are hundreds of others located all around town and along beach road.

Thanks for the reply Darrin and the comprehensive info. Not really a particular good driver buat I am from North Sumatra, Indonesia where traffic should be worse than in Thailand, that include motorbike riding. Will rent a motorbike such as Yamaha Mio and the sort. Will visit the person u named above. Thanks again.

Do not under estimate the traffic in Phuket, also be carefull where you park and who you rent with.

Some "accidents" aren't accidents if you get what i mean.

Pls be carefull at all times, have a good trip.

To me the only driving rule in Phuket is that there are NO rules, Nobody stays in lanes, one lane may become 4 lanes, traffic lights mean little pedestrian crossings mean nothing. The only thing that is consistant is that they use the horns alot toot toot to tel that they are comming past.
You wouls have to be VERY careful and Very BRAVE.
Also be very careful that there is insurance

just got back from phuket. rented motorbike (manual) for 150 baht. much better than getting the automatic scooter (IMHO). as you are going up and down hills from kamala - patong - karon - kata and vice versa. for me i reckon its very safe to be riding the motorbike. streets in patong may be a bit busy and dangerous. but just stick to the left and drive slowly you should be fine. be aware that police do a lot of random license checking at patong beach. do have a license of any kind (i had a car driving license and they dont even care). dont try to bribe when its busy as it will go into a bigger problem for you.
